Genre Trailers - 'I Know What You Did Last Summer'
Main characters in a state of equilibrium but are foreshadowing horror events to come for example talking about horror stories
Piercing non diegetic sound accompanied with quick cuts creating fear and anxiety for the viewer
A disruption to the equilibrium occurs which normally involves death or disruption (they knock over the man and hide his body), this usually sets up the revenge narrative
A hidden character (usually the antagonist tries to evoke fear in the main characters often causing them to be hunted down one by one
Within the narrative there is an element of chase which causes enigma to who the antagonist may be
The protagonists are in danger and get hurt for example Ryan Phillipe’s character getting in an accident
Close up shots used to show terror
Shots of broken mirrors which foreshadows bad luck which again is another convention of the horror genre (bad luck foreshadowing what will happen to the victims
The victims of the antagonist become very fearful and become quite manic/psychotic
Intertextual conventions from previous horror films such as the shower scene showing vulnerability of the victim but also creates fear in the audience as they know what can happen
Lots of shots of victims running away and the mise-en-scene are often places where the victims are vulnerable and isolated (often shot at night as-well)
Screaming and sheer panic is a convention within the horror genre and this is emphasised in the lost shot of the trailer
