Film Posters - 'Notting Hill'

  • The title of the film ‘Notting Hill’ is very prominent which is a convention
  • The actors that star in the film are written in bold and help sell the film to the audience (these are the main characters in the film)
  • The images of the main actors are prominent and the representations shown on the poster give insight into their characters and shows a little part of the narrative. (For example he’s an ordinary man that falls in love with a film star)
  • Another convention of film posters is to mention past successful films from the same creators which helps market this film more successfully. (FROM THE CREATORS OF ‘FOURS WEDDINGS AND FUNERAL’)
  • A slogan from the film is another convention which gives more insight into the narrative of the film. (can the most famous film star in the world fall for the man in the street )
  • The names of the production crew and film companies / logos can be another convention used on film posters which again is clearly shown on the Notting Hill poster
  • The colours used link to the genre of ‘British’ rom coms as red, white and blue link to the British colours
  • The genre is also clear - based on the reference to Four weddings which is a romantic comedy and the two protagonists being male and female and the link to ‘fall for’ in the slogan make the genre or romance clear
