Analysing Genre Reviews on Posters
There are four film reviews which are all from reputable sources from the rolling stone magazine to the Washington post. These reviews such as ‘AN INSTANT CLASSIC FIENDISHLY CLEVER!’ (The Washington post), ‘SENSATIONAL! TERRIFIC ENTERTAINMENT!’ (The Los Angeles times), ‘INVENTIVE, WITTY AND HIGHLY SATISFYING’ (New York daily news) and ‘A DELICIOUS BLEND OF FUN AND FRIGHT THATS SMASHINGLY SCARY’ (Rolling Stone). All of these quotes are positively reviewing the film using positive and emotive language that helps to market the film effectively.
The review on the Blair witch project poster says ‘SCARY AS HELL’. Although there is only one review, it is quite an eye-catching and the use of the adjective ‘scary’ not only relates to the genre but is also emotive. And the use of white colour stands out against the black background which would be eye catching. The reason why this review is effective is because it embeds the whole genre of the film and highlights the fear which is what the film is known for.
