Analysing Existing Genre Billing Blocks in Film Posters - 'Scream'
On the 'Scream' poster, because it is part of a franchise and it's the fourth film within the franchise, the poster isn’t selling the actors, its selling the name of the film, Therefore the billing only consists of the billing block. This consists of the production companies such as Spyglass and Paramount and also has links to social media such as ‘@screammovies’.
- The original 'Scream' poster has a lot more billing credits and directly under the title of the film, there are the actors names which includes some recognisable names such as ‘Courtney Cox’, ‘Neve Campbell’ and ‘Drew Barrymore’
- The arrangement of the names of the actors reflect a traditional hierarchy of lead characters as although Drew Barrymore is a big name, she is not in it for very long hence the ‘and Drew Barrymore’
- The film title 'Scream' is prominently placed in the centre
- The billing block is in the standard placement at the bottom with key crew members listed and production distribution credits showing film companies such as ‘Miramax’, ‘Dimension Films’ and ‘Woods Entertainment Production’
- In addition, it states it is a ‘Wes Craven film' and his name is also mentioned above the scream title as he is a well known director as this creates more effective branding and marketing and gives the film more credibility
